ST. LOUIS, September 20, 2017 – Acts for Houston, a variety show featuring many of the top professional performing arts companies in St. Louis will be held on Friday, October 6 at the Grandel Theatre in Grand Center at 7:00pm. All proceeds from the performance will benefit the Houston Theater District, which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Harvey in August 2017.
Well-known local entertainer Donna Weinsting will serve as host of the show, which will include performances by many of the area’s top performing companies, including The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Tesseract Theatre, On the Fly Productions, Ashleyliane Dance, R-S Theatrics, Gateway Opera and Max & Louie Productions, among others.
The Houston Theater District in downtown Houston features world-renowned resident companies as well as many smaller, local companies which perform in five primary venues. All of those venues and at least 12 others suffered major flood damage in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey’s devastating impact on Houston. Working artists in the greater Houston area face significant loss of work while also dealing with the loss of their homes, cars and personal items.
All proceeds from Acts for Houston will go to Theater District Houston, a fund set up specifically for the working artists of Houston to help them rebuild their homes and livelihoods. The show’s goal is to raise $10,000 through ticket sales, direct donations and a raffle of donated tickets. In addition, Acts for Houston is asking area foundations to pledge a matched donation.
Tickets to the Acts for Houston variety show can be obtained for $20.00 online at https://www.metrotix.com/events/detail/acts-for-houston. More information on the event is available at www.actsforhouston.com or www.facebook.com/pg/ActsForHouston.
